Precipitation Viewer — How to use

Load daily or aggregated precipitation, pick an area, and export data. Follow the steps below.

  1. Choose a data mode:
    • Daily: pick a single date — the layer loads automatically.
    • Aggregated: set From and To (≤ 90 days), choose a method (Average / Maximum / Total), then click Load Aggregated Data.
  2. Select an area (top tools):
    • Search a place, county, or state to use its outline.
    • Draw Polygon or Draw Rectangle for a custom shape.
    • Upload Boundary to use your own GeoJSON or Shapefile (.zip containing .shp and other required meatdata).
    • One tool at a time: if a shape/boundary exists, click Delete Shape(s) before searching, drawing, or uploading again.
Tip: You can load data first or select an area first. The selection matters for exports (clipping), not for loading.
  3. Read the map:
    • Units switch (mm/in) updates the legend values.
    • Change Basemap anytime (street, topo, imagery, etc.).
    • Move your mouse over the map to see location and precipitation at the cursor.
  4. Export data:
    • Pick Raster scope: Selected area (clips to your shape) or Entire raster.
    • Choose a format: GeoTIFF, CSV, or NetCDF, then click Download Raster.
  5. Reset: Use Clear to remove the current layer and selection. The bottom-right button toggles fullscreen.
Welcome! Read About first, or jump to Daily/Aggregated. Units default to mm.
